The Dutch Language Association (ALNVNT Taaltuin Voltaire) has been a cornerstone of multilingual education in the Pays de Gex for over half a century. Our Dutch-Flemish international section offers nurturing, enriching, and joyful learning.

Fully integrated into the French educational system, our program offers Dutch mother-tongue education from primary through secondary levels—ensuring continuity, quality, and cultural connection.

Small Classes, Big Impact

Over our more than 50 years of existence, the number of pupils in our section has varied significantly. Today, we welcome 60 pupils across all levels—from curious young learners to ambitious lycée students. Our small class sizes foster a warm, personalised learning environment, a welcome change from the large classes in the French public system.

Dutch Education at Every Stage

We tailor our curriculum to suit each age group:

  • Primary: Half a day per week
  • Collège: 6 hours per week
  • Lycée: 8 hours per week

Our team of six dedicated teachers—funded by the Ministries of Education of Belgium and the Netherlands, along with parental contributions—brings education with a human touch — every child is seen, heard, and supported.

Culture, Connection, and Community

Taaltuin Voltaire is more than just language education—it is the place where language, culture, and community come together beautifully. Our students and parents enjoy:

  • Erasmus+ exchanges to the Netherlands and Belgium and Cultural and language-focused excursions for our students.
  • Literary evenings featuring well-known Dutch or Belgian authors studied by the students during the year.
  • Film nights showcasing Dutch or Belgian productions, followed by informal gatherings with drinks and snacks – gezelligheid!
  • Sinterklaas-festivities in November and December.
  • Our end-of-year BBQ, where we honour our graduating baccalaureate students.

These events are cherished moments that strengthen our community and celebrate Dutch language and culture into the everyday lives of our families.
