On 3rd September, the CERN Staff Association welcomed AMFIE to present its savings and retirement solutions, with a particular focus on CERN Users. These individuals often have limited social protection

AMFIE’s savings and retirement solutions are designed to accompany civil servants, and Users, throughout their professional life and can provide income upon reaching retirement age. As CERN Users frequently move to other laboratories, these solutions offer the valuable opportunity to maintain the same retirement plan regardless of location.

The provident savings plan is specifically tailored for international professionals, most of whom spend the majority of their careers outside their home country.

The collaboration between the CERN Staff Association and AMFIE is not new. For decades, AMFIE has been used, providing tailored financial solutions to CERN employees and retirees.

Founded in Luxembourg in 1990, AMFIE is a financial cooperative created by international civil servants to address the financial needs of their colleagues. By pooling members’ savings, AMFIE is able to negotiate favourable terms with banks and other financial service providers. Today, its more than 8,000 members—spread across the globe, with a strong presence in Europe—enjoy a wide range of services at low or no cost, including:

  • Current accounts in multiple currencies (EUR, CHF, USD, etc.), free of charge
  • Foreign exchange services at competitive rates (0.4% above market)
  • International wire transfers, free or at very low cost
  • Savings accounts and term deposits in several currencies, offering attractive interest rates
  • Children’s accounts, free of charge
  • A provident savings plan specifically designed for staff and consultants of international organizations

Beyond its product offering, AMFIE’s strength lies in its cooperative model and member-oriented approach:

  • Members benefit from an “anchor account” that follows them wherever their career takes them.
  • As owners of the cooperative, members are not seen as mere clients but as stakeholders.
  • A dedicated team of specialists, familiar with the unique circumstances of international organization staff, is available on business days to answer questions and provide guidance.

Of course, AMFIE’s solutions may prove highly valuable for some colleagues while less relevant for others. The best way to determine suitability is to contact AMFIE directly for a personalized discussion of your financial needs.
